The Reno Fly Shop reopened its doors in 2014 just up from the Truckee River and under new ownership. Much has changed since its beginning in 1983, but new owner, Jim Litchfield, hopes many things remain the same.

“We are committed to providing our customers with the best fly fishing experience possible. The Reno Fly Shop was considered the most knowledgeable fly fishing outfitter in our region. My goal is to continue that tradition by providing customers with all they’ll need to enjoy their time on the water. CLARK PIERCE
Clark (Cheech) originally from Vernal, UT is relatively famous from his days as a steer wrestler in Elko Nevada. He ties a few flies now and again when he's not busy modeling plus size clothing. He has tied for many years, and got his start in fly design with Rainy's flies, where he created the Cheech Leech, Grumpy Frumpy, and other effective patterns. He is now an innovator for Fulling Mill, and many of his fly patterns are available through them. His most notable accomplishment in fly tying is that he once tied 65 San Juan worms in 20 minutes, and eating a Big Mac in 4 bites....

    CURTIS FRY
Curtis has been tying flies for over 20 years. He learned to fish in the mountains and high deserts of Eastern Oregon targeting trout, bass, crappie and catfish. Even though he battles the little known disease of "hot dog fingers," he still has amazing dexterity while at the vise.

  • Ted Fay Fly Shop
    Hits: 359

Ted Fay moved to Dunsmuir in 1950 and bought the Lookout Point Motel. He came here for the fishing. Becoming adept at the local techniques, he would often take his motel guests fishing. This was the genesis of the Ted Fay Fly Shop and Guide Service.
In the 1960’s, The Lookout Point property was claimed by eminent domain for the construction of Interstate 5. Ted moved the shop to his home in north Dunsmuir, where it remained until his passing in the early 1980’s.
Joe Kimsey was born in McCloud and raised in Dunsmuir. He would spend 20 years (and a few extra minutes) in the Air Force, retiring in 1973. An avid hunter and angler, Joe began guiding when he came home. As Ted’s reputation and business grew, Joe often took overflow business, and their association grew. When Ted passed away, Joe bought the shop and moved it to the Garden Motel (now called the Acorn Inn).
Joe's reputation for knowledge, simplicity, and kindness was widespread. I bought the shop in 1997, and Joe remained associated with the store until his passing in 2011. He is missed.
Ted Fay Fly Shop moved to its current location in 2007.

Welcome to The Perfect Fly Store, home of the World's Best Fishing Flies. We have hundreds of new flies that imitate the specific foods fish eat.  Keep in mind that fish are not fooled by your expensive fly rod, fly reel or your fly line. They are fooled by the fly. The more your fly looks and acts like what the fish are eating, the better your chances of success. These are the best rainbow trout flies, brown trout flies, cutthroat trout flies and brook trout flies available. Matching the hatch has never been easier. We also have a large selection of steelhead flies and salmon flies for the Pacific, Atlantic and Great Lakes. Our smallmouth bass flies, largemouth bass flies, bream flies, panfish flies, popping bugs, pike and muskie flies, and streamer flies are superior to any on the market. These flies imitate the things freshwater fish rely on to survive. The saltwater fishing flies are the very best quality including flats flies, bonefish flies, permit flies; backcountry flies, redfish flies, trout flies, snook flies, stripped bass flies, tarpon flies, dolphin flies, sailfish flies, mackerel flies and tuna flies.
