The Trout Spot

  • Fishing Report for Week of 6/19/2017

    The Trout Spot - Fishing Reports Jun 19, 2017 | 09:55 am

Flows still remain high on the North Fork of the Stanislaus river, but with all of the heat this week melting the snow up top, flows should start to come down soon.  Lake alpine is now completely thawed out and fish are being caught using Wooly Buggers and other streamers.  Access to the East end of the lake is still closed.  Beaver Creek has been producing some fish in the Big Trees State Park and there are still some fish being caught out of White Pines lake over the weekend.  Prince nymphs have been working well.  While with all the water, we are getting a late start, as flows continue to improve, it should be great for fishing this summer and fall.  Make sure to check with the Forestry service for road closures as there are still many that remained closed.

    The Trout Spot - Fishing Reports May 22, 2017 | 10:53 am

Flows remain high on the North Fork of the Stanislaus, but a few fish are being caught with nymphs down deep.  Beaver Creek flows are starting to improve with a few fish now being caught, Red copper johns are the go to fly right now.  White Pines Lake is still producing good fish, Wiggle tails and Olive nymphs are the go to flies.  Fish plants are scheduled for this week for Angels Creek, Beaver Creek, White Pines lake and all forks of the Stanislaus.  The weather is warming up and the water is cold, but fishing is improving, so got out there and wet a fly.

  • Fishing Report for Week of 5/15/2017

    The Trout Spot - Fishing Reports May 15, 2017 | 10:51 am

There are still plenty of fish to be caught on White Pines Lake.  Wiggle Tail Nymphs and Buggers are working well.  The flows remain high on the North Fork of The Stanislaus as well as Beaver Creek.  Both have been planted twice this year, and the bait guys are pulling some fish out of Sour grass.  Tough fishing for us Fly Guys, but heavy nymphs and large streamers should work if you can get them down to the fish.  Make sure to check with the forest service before you head out as many roads are closed due to all of the rain this winter.  Remember all of that water is good for the river and the fish in the long run...
