Four Seasons Fly Fishing Reports

  • Tahoe Truckee Fly Fishing Report May 14, 2018

Four Seasons Fly Fishing May 14, 2018 | 12:12 pm

Looks like we are in for a week of unsettled weather with afternoon thunder storms.  Should be good for the fishing.  I have been seeing more bugs popping on the overcast days.  Even found a few working fish that took us to school.  Love that!  The fish don’t care they’re already wet throw on the wading/rain jacket and head on out. It is still a bit early for the high country access. Have your tried Tenkara?  I am offering Tenkara as an option for a guided trip.  Tenkara is a Continue Reading

The Fishing this past week has been pretty good around Truckee-Tahoe area.  The flows have dropped some and the water is clear.  Looking at a nice warm up for the end of this week and weekend. This should cause some of the side creeks to turn a little turbid in the afternoons.   Now is generally the time that people catch their fish of the year. Have your tried Tenkara?  I am offering Tenkara as an option for a guided trip.  Tenkara is a Japanese style of fishing that is Continue Reading

Well the flows have come down nicely and we are set up for some decent spring fishing.  There is a little bit of a cool down coming this weekend through Tuesday but that is Spring in the Mountains.  Saturday is the general trout opener, Yah!  Check those regulations so you know which apply to the body of water your fishing.  Now is the time to tie into one of the Truckee River Monsters that you here so much about.  I have plenty of openings give me a call and we’ll Continue Reading

Well it looks like the big water is here a little earlier than last season.  Not to worry you can still catch fish just got to change your tactics a bit.  The fish aren’t super happy fight the current all day so look for them to be in the softer areas near the banks or on the inside of turns.  The water now is cold and there is tons of food being dislodged, the fish don’t have to do much to get a bite to eat.  With that said, slow Continue Reading

Better late than never!  Winter showed up Big time last week with over 70″ of snow at Alpine in just 4 days.  Skiing has been really good and this was a cold storm with only about 6″ of water content.   More snow is forecast for the end of this week as well.  Great for our summer water flows. It has been cold so again ski in the morning and fish in the Afternoons.  With all of this new snow access to both the Truckee and Little Truckee will be Continue Reading

Well, winter has yet to really show up.  If  you were outside today you might disagree, cold and windy with some light snow flurries that reminded me its not spring yet.  Not to worry spring will be here again in a few days.  Fishing on the Truckee and Little Truckee has been good.  Lots of Little Winter Stones, Midges, Sqwallas, and BWO’s out and about.  So are the anglers!  This time of year go skiing on the groomers in the morning and head to the river in the afternoon.  With Continue Reading

Happy Black Friday!  Conditions in the area are prefect for getting out and wetting a line.  The weather is in the mid 50’s and there is water in all of the creeks and rivers from last week’s storm event.  Looks like we are headed for another cool down and maybe more snow.  Time to get outside and fish.  For those looking to get something for their fisher person I do sell Gift Certificates for Full-day and Half day trips. A reminder that we are in the Winter Fishing Regulations Season!  That Continue Reading

Welcome to Fall!  Crisp mornings, sunny days, and no crowds.  The best time to be in our area. The fishing has be really good the last couple weeks.  Look for the flows to get jacked around a bit as the reservoirs are being dropped for winter.  Still some bugs coming off throughout the day and be getting some good windows of Dry Fly fishing.  On the other hand, fishing big streamers below Boca inflow can be pretty good as well. A bit of transition time here as I move up Continue Reading

I am back from my Fly Fishing Vacation in Wydaho.  Do to some poor planning on my part we ended up going to the Zone of Totality for the recent Eclipse.  Everything worked out fine and the fishing at times was as good as it gets for dries and streamers.  The Eclipse was cool as well. While I was away the afternoon thunderstorms have kept things in pretty good shape for this time of year.  We are in the “Dog Days 0f Summer”  but, it is not as “Doggy” as Continue Reading

Last week’s thunderstorms and rain did wonders for the fishing.  Water temps were held down to nice fishable levels well into the afternoons.  Dry Fly action is still good both early and late.  Caddis and Mayflies are making up the bulk of the bugs and the Little Yellow Stones quickly fading away.  Streamer action has started to slow as well.  Although not as warm as the last few seasons we are approaching the “dog days of summer”.  Good time to explore the high country or visit the Smallmouth Bass at Continue Reading
