Four Seasons Fly Fishing Reports

  • Truckee Tahoe Fly Fishing Report June 13, 2018

What a difference a week of sun can make.  Pretty decent late spring fishing around here.  Flows are good and water temps on freestones rivers and creeks are warming up!  The bugs are starting to hatch a little more each day and the fish are looking up as well.  The ant hatch was good and and fish are still moving to it.  Better get here while it is not so busy. The Truckee-Tour Trout Tour  is a two-day event for the experienced angler looking for access options and a techniques for Continue Reading

Conditions here couldn’t be better super nice weather, plenty of water, and really eager fish.  The flows are a bit up and down on the rivers but that hasn’t seemed to disrupt the fish too much.  On the reservoirs temps are still good and the fish are still in the shallows.  Perfect for fly fishing.  It’s a great time to been here. Truckee River*** The flows have dropped a fair amount and are 246cfs near Truckee and 503cfs at Boca.  Mid-day water temps are in the Mid 50’s.  With the lower Continue Reading

The weather looks like it has turned nice for a bit.  I was really enjoying the cloud cover that the last couple of weeks weather had brought us, fishing was pretty darn good.  Hard to say what is going to happen with flow releases from the dams but they are currently dropping in the natural springs and feeder streams.  We have water!  The Ants are here!  The Big ‘Ol Carpenter Ants are out and about.  Fish love them whether on the river or the lake the fish will be keying Continue Reading

The overcast weather we have been experiencing the last few weeks has made for good fly fishing on the local reservoirs.  Water temps are still low with little solar radiation to warm things up.  The fish have been up in the shallows working on Midges and Calibeatis nymphs.  Not many takers on surface patterns most fish have been on indicator rigs.  Easily accessible from shore right now but, when the sun comes back out things will change. Prosser, Boca, and Stampede ***  Haven’t had a chance to get to Prosser Continue Reading

The fishing has been pretty good with the unsettled weather.  Looks like more rain is on the way.  Not too many people out and about yet but that will change this weekend.  The flows on the rivers here are all at good fishing levels.  The snow up high is melting pretty fast and you can now get into Jackson Meadows and down to Milton. Have your tried Tenkara?  I am offering Tenkara as an option for a guided trip.  Tenkara is a Japanese style of fishing that is very simple Continue Reading

Looks like we are in for a week of unsettled weather with afternoon thunder storms.  Should be good for the fishing.  I have been seeing more bugs popping on the overcast days.  Even found a few working fish that took us to school.  Love that!  The fish don’t care they’re already wet throw on the wading/rain jacket and head on out. It is still a bit early for the high country access. Have your tried Tenkara?  I am offering Tenkara as an option for a guided trip.  Tenkara is a Continue Reading

The Fishing this past week has been pretty good around Truckee-Tahoe area.  The flows have dropped some and the water is clear.  Looking at a nice warm up for the end of this week and weekend. This should cause some of the side creeks to turn a little turbid in the afternoons.   Now is generally the time that people catch their fish of the year. Have your tried Tenkara?  I am offering Tenkara as an option for a guided trip.  Tenkara is a Japanese style of fishing that is Continue Reading

Well the flows have come down nicely and we are set up for some decent spring fishing.  There is a little bit of a cool down coming this weekend through Tuesday but that is Spring in the Mountains.  Saturday is the general trout opener, Yah!  Check those regulations so you know which apply to the body of water your fishing.  Now is the time to tie into one of the Truckee River Monsters that you here so much about.  I have plenty of openings give me a call and we’ll Continue Reading

Well it looks like the big water is here a little earlier than last season.  Not to worry you can still catch fish just got to change your tactics a bit.  The fish aren’t super happy fight the current all day so look for them to be in the softer areas near the banks or on the inside of turns.  The water now is cold and there is tons of food being dislodged, the fish don’t have to do much to get a bite to eat.  With that said, slow Continue Reading

Better late than never!  Winter showed up Big time last week with over 70″ of snow at Alpine in just 4 days.  Skiing has been really good and this was a cold storm with only about 6″ of water content.   More snow is forecast for the end of this week as well.  Great for our summer water flows. It has been cold so again ski in the morning and fish in the Afternoons.  With all of this new snow access to both the Truckee and Little Truckee will be Continue Reading
